Past Students Work.

The video above stylistic choices are similar to sort we wish we aim to achieve. The performances represent the songs feel and undertones and really depicts the 'cheeky chap' the main performer is acting out. It reflects an image of teenage urban life and uses location to great effect. The settings are relatable but the entire video is edited at the correct speed that works with the speed of the lyrics meaning. We want to create a similar effect on the audience without plagerising and stepping on any other video's toes so to speak.

Influences

Here are two videos we feel have influenced our ideas on creating our video.

Natasha Bedingfield - Soulmate:

We feel the style this video is portraying is the same as we would like to achieve ourselves. The use of abstract cut-aways, shots and images, is an idea we liked before we saw the video. After viewing the video, we decided we wanted a similar style within our own piece.

Rouge Traders - VooDoo Child:

Although this video is different to the one above, we liked some of its features. It is spontaneous, colourful and uses a combinations of graphic effects.

Plain White Tee's - Hey there Delilah

We added this to our blog as we feel that the split screen effect is an idea which we would like to you, although instead of having the same background in each part, we would do a different colour wash on each.

The Video below is the opening to the film 'pledge this':

Although we know the whole effect of this video would not be possible, it is the idea of the different colours which has influenced us.

Peter Gabriel, SledgeHammer:

We found this video very helpful to us, as this video gave us the idea of how to start our music video. Also, we find it very influencial to our ideas, and the overall look to how we would like our video to look.

The Verve - This is the music:

Some good transitions, cutaways, flashy images and editing.

Pitch

You'll Find A Way - Santogold, is a fresh RnB song which differs from a usual RnB track. It works as a dance song, aswell as having a hip-hop beat throughout.
The overall look we are trying to achieve will be very contempory, stylised and colourful. We aim to make a video which reflects the tone of the song.
In the video, lots of different locations will be used, for example, a Nightclub a subway and a Car which will add to the urban feel of the song. We are planning to include clothing and characters that will appeal to a modern audience.
Ultimatly, we are intending to make a video which a young adult demographic can enjoy and relate to.
In the video, there will be a combination of reailty (performance) and linked themed shots of seemlesly irrelevant animations. Although on the surface, these linked shots will seem random, we intend to use them to create an underlying meaning which fits to the lyrics of the song.
Our intentions are to finalize our reality shots with colourful and abstract editing to create a mood which suits the genre. Fast cuts between shots will be used to create a sense of movement that co-ordinates with the song's atmosphere, and how it progresses during the storyline.

When filming the video, we will use a varied amount of different shots and camera angles. Hand held shots will be used to create an audience view and add towards making the viewers engaged in the song. The video will work in chronilogical order, throughout the performers day.

Initial Ideas

Here are some of our first ideas for our music video.

We aim to create a very abstract video by using cut away shots, modern imagery, whilst making it sequential with the lyrics and the story. This will all be then cut into a performance of Rachel miming the song.
We will use a non-linear structure to engage and appeal to a young and modern audience.

You'll Find A Way - Santogold

Go Ahead, you know you want it
You'll have no other way
you just want to take us down
go ahead,
I'll be the one hit
If I can take you, boy, it just might throw this town
Oh, you want to get it
You make us bleed, it'll prove there's life somewhere
And oh, no, I want to yell it
but do we speak or are we just nodding our heads
No way, not me, what you got,
it's not for me, but you'll find a way
no way not me, what you got,
it's not for me

Don't reach too far
You will fall over
Don't be surprised what you discover
Don't fear your call
Can't pull us under
You better watch out, run for cover

We see right through it
You get what you give, you get what you give

Go ahead
I'll be your junkie
I'll be deplete you can heap all rubbish here
Go ahead, now dump it on me
if I go quiet will the itch go down with me
Oh, you got to get it
nevermind that it was never there nowhere
but oh, no, not for a minute
for now you'll make your bed
and it will wait, I swear

No way, not me, what you got,
it's not for me, but you'll find a way
no way not me, what you got,
it's not for me

Don't reach too far
You will fall over
Don't be surprised what you discover
Don't fear your call
Can't pull us under
You better watch out, run for cover

We see right through it
You get what you give, you get what you give

Tell them that they'll get what they wanted, tell them
Tell them that they'll get what they wanted.
'Til then....
